Mary Janet (Allgood) Hartman entered her eternal rest on Monday, September 13, 2021.

Born on December 31, 1935, in Bastrop, Louisiana to Sam Sylvester Sr and Minerva Iles Allgood. The youngest and only daughter of four children, the family moved to Lake Charles where Janet lived until she met a young (however, eight years her senior) Air Force officer, Sam Hartman. The two wed on June 1, 1957. They remained happily married for forty-seven years until Sam’s passing in 2004.

A teacher by profession, she taught at Goldsboro Elementary School in Sanford, Fl She was most happy at home and her church. Janet was a lover of the Lord Jesus Christ and people, with a particular bias toward her family (with an even more particular bias toward her grandchildren). To walk in her door was to become family. One was rarely around Janet when food was not involved. A meal usually meant an opportunity to serve and fellowship with those she cared so much for.

An ardent fan of the Florida Gators and Atlanta Braves, Janet never missed her sons’ sporting events.

A member of Forest City First Baptist Church for over 45 years, she taught a woman’s bible study for most of that time.

Along with her husband, Janet was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers (Glen, Frank, and Sam Jr), a daughter who was stillborn, and grandson, Jonathan.

Survivors include three sons, Lee (Angela), Steve (Sue), and Billy (Kim). Grandchildren, Jessica (Jason), Amanda (Jess), Sarah (Richard), Kelsey (Jeremy) and their mother Melissa. Other grandchildren, Kara (Josh), Quinn, Karla (Chris), Alaric, Katie (Matt), Sam, and Amelia, and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Services will Tuesday, September 21, at Forest City First Baptist Church with visitation at 9:00 followed by funeral service at 10:00. Burial will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fl at 1:30. Reverend Matt Groce will officiate. Pallbearers will be Quinn Hartman, Sam Hartman, Nick Hartman, David Shore, Will Beach, and Jess Register.

The family requests that any donations be made to Forest City First Baptist Church, 721 W Lake Brantley Rd, Altamonte Springs, Fl 32714.

Obituario

Mickey as she was known by all was born Oct. 2, 1920. She was One of 9 children. Mickey had two children, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.  She was here with us for 101 years, not many people get to stay that long. What a life she lived and the things she saw. She graduated from Oviedo High and was salutatorian of her graduating class. After graduation she attend a business school in Tampa. While in Tampa she meets Carl Sokolitsky was married and had two children Gary and Carla. Her husband Carl was in the Air Force and was sent overseas. Mickey and children followed, Mickey told me stories of her and her sister’s trip from Orlando to California for their trip overseas to join her husband. The family spent time in the south pacific mainly Japan. After Carl retired from the Air Force and they moved back to Orlando Mickey lost her husband Carl a short time later, and she had to provide for her two children which of course she did. A few years later she meets James Hawthorne.  Mickey met James when she was working at the Orlando Vital Statistics office in Orlando. It got to be a joke with the other ladies that worked in the Vital Statistics. When James would come in for a death certificate, they would let Mickey know her Bow was here. A relationship blossomed and they were married. Once married Mickey helped James at Hawthorne Funeral Home. Mickey and James had a great life together until his passing. As always after his death Mickey carried on.

When I told my wife Carla, I would do the Eulogy for Mickey I thought back to the first time I meet her. From my every first time she struck me as a kind caring person. After have the pleasure of knowing her for almost 50 years that feeling and thought never changed. I never missed the chanced to set and talk with her. The conversation was always interesting. If you did not want a question honestly answered you should not have asked. Mickey never missed a chance to get the while family together. Every holiday was at her house there was always plenty of good food and good times with the family. I think her favorite was her annual Christmas party. Right after Thanksgiving lunched was cleared away up went the Christmas tree. That was the start of her getting things ready for her Christmas Party. Family and friends were all invited. It was a whole day of people coming in and out. Some people would be being their favorite dish for all to enjoy. Mickey just loved having everyone getting together and talking about what was going on or reminiscing about old times. It was always a good time for all, but no one enjoyed it more than Mickey.

On Mickey’s 100th birthday she was honored by the City of Oviedo. Oct. 2 2020 was proclaimed Mildred Hawthorne Day. That was due to the efforts of Katie her granddaughter and Katie’s personal connection with the Mayor of Oviedo. Katie put out the word to family friends and on social media all her 100-year-old grand-mother wanted was a birthday cards and she received a bunch.

I asked several people what word or words they would use to describe Mickey. I asked Kathy how would describe Mickey. Her word was welcoming. She automatically felt like part of the family. The other when I ask Jen what word she would use without much though her word was welcoming.  I heard thankful, honest, always wanting to help instead of being helped, caring & aperitive I heard the word love a lot as well. In all the time that I had the honor to know her I never heard anyone have a ill word to say.  We all know in our hearts that she is in a better place today in the presents of God surrounded by love and family.

A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at 11:00 am with Hospice Chaplain, Rev. Leslie McReady officiating.

Isabel y George hicieron muchos viajes a Europa.

Viv was featured in an article from the First District Times published by Farm Credit titled, “Vivian Hopkins, The Voice of Farm Credit in that Voice an Image”.   It stated that “Viv’s voice creates, for many (in the banks associations), the very ‘image’ of Farm Credit and may even establish the caller’s perspective of the business and all its associates. She may handle as many as 700 incoming calls a day. And she hasn’t yet told anyone to “fly a kite” though the thought has, says she, “…occasionally crossed my mind.”

Viv went on to be an Executive Assistant and chief receptionist at Mass Mutual Life Insurance Company, home office in Springfield. That smile, larger than life and welcoming grace treated all with the highest professionalism. She was known as ‘Miss Mass Mutual’ to all. In an excerpt of a letter it stated: “When I think of the thousands of clients, customers and associates who have passed through the front door during your tenure as the “first face” of the Company, I can’t think of a better person to have been there to greet them all. Your energy, enthusiasm, and diligence are contagious, and have quietly provided valuable lessons to all of us in our day-to-day dealings with others.”

Viv was a fierce athlete and competed in the Senior Olympics as a “Race Walker” garnering a silver medal in the 1500-meter race and bronze medal in the 3000-meter race in 1999.

After moving to Florida, Viv’s desire to stay fit, motivated her to organize morning neighborhood walks. That was not enough. After the warmup walk, off to the National Training Center in Clermont. Open to local residents this facility to trains potential Olympians. Spinning, Zumba, Aerobics, no challenge to Viv – she loved it all and thrived on the challenges. Once Viv’s illness had progressed her friends rallied around her to show their love and support.

No matter where she was, church, work or at play her warm, cheerful smile endless energy inspired everyone.
